I have a distinguished history of being a dick to my co-workers (photos offline, natch), so in that grand tradition, here’s a picture of my current office.
The cottage is working out well so far. Internet access is solid, which facilitates actual work. My favorite part so far: all the fireflies that come out at dusk.

Kev and I went to Pittsburgh last weekend to take in the Steelers game. We stared down the worst snowstorm in 60 years and said, “We’re too stubborn to change our plans!” This year’s pilgrimage was especially meaningful for me because I’ve been a Steelers fan since the early ’80s when the only NFL football you could get on TV in Canada were games that featured either the Steelers or the Cowboys.
We used to do this every year: pick an NFL team, preferably within crashing distance of someone we knew, and then go see a game. We’ve been stymied the last few years by the logistics of choosing a city and a time that worked for the 3 or so other participants that normally joined us in this venture. We were almost stymied again this year until Kev and I realized that the logistics for just 2 people were much easier to figure out.
Things that were reaffirmed to me this past weekend:
- If you can’t establish a running game, especially outdoors in winter, a) you suck, and b) you’re not going very far in the playoffs.
- Going to NFL games is a lot of fun, and a completely different kind of fun than going to CFL games or even hockey games.
- Traveling over the winter holidays for fun should only be attempted by trained professionals. Do not try this at home!
- Weather happens. Deal.
- Acting nice to airline staff gets you on to flights you might not otherwise get on. This works exceptionally well if the people in front of you in line try to blame the airline staff for the weather.
Kev and I will definitely be doing this again next year, and we’ve even picked a city: Seattle. As much as we love travel delays, we’ll be aiming for a game much, *much* earlier in the season though. Hopefully this will be enough warning for our slacker friends who were unable to join us this year.

I held out my pinky while taking all these photos, honest.

I’m adding my name to the growing list of Mozilla people attending FSOSS 2007 in Toronto at the end of October. I missed out on FSOSS last year, and everyone involved seems to have had a blast. It’s rare to have a relevant conference within VIA1 striking distance of Ottawa, so I’m taking a stab this year.
What will I be doing? Well, first and foremost, the Mozilla QA team has a testday scheduled for the Friday, Oct. 26th with a focus on OS Integration on Vista & Mac, with a secondary focus on Installer testing. Between sessions, I’ll be plugging into testday, and hopefully leading an impromptu remote testday in conjunction with Club Moz @ Seneca. It’s no secret that Seneca has also been a fruitful recruiting ground for us in the past, so I’ll also be chatting with students and generally trying to get people excited about plugging in to the Mozilla community.
Hope to see lots of folks there.

If you can afford bus fare, you can entertain my son for hours. Luckily, London has more than enough buses to go around.
I’ve posted photos from the Spanish leg of our journey to flickr (even upgraded to pro in the process), but I’ll hold off on posting anything from England until we get home.

An overused aphorism, perhaps, but if I could strap a saddle to this mountain of email, I might ride through it a little faster.
To answer your question, yes, the vacation was good (photos coming soon). Your patience is appreciated while I get back up to speed over the next few days. I’ll be beating on tinderbox/buildbot/Litmus soon enough, to be sure.

While I can’t recommend the 16->20 hour drive each way, spending some quality time at the seashore in Nova Scotia was a lot of fun. The drive could have been worse too. Luckily the moose we saw (2) were just approaching the road rather than already astride it.
Will loved spending time with his Grandma and investigating her enormous house. He seems to love the beach almost as much as he loves trucks.
As always, flickr tells the tale. I should probably point out that although I’m the one posting the pics, I’m obviously *in* a lot of the photos, so I have to give props to Kristina for the quality of the photography. She has taken some fantastic photos.

The balance of our trip photos is now online. Yes, it was all as much fun as it looks.

Now that I have my new office setup and am properly stocked with office supplies, I should be able to get down to business.
Life is rough.

All of my worst-case scenarios for traveling to France with an infant tomorrow center around airport security rather than any actual airline disaster or reptiles.
