Kris hasn’t posted anything in a while about our ongoing house project, so I’ll pick up the slack. We’ve chosen our architect! It was not an easy decision. Continue Reading…
One benefit of giving up WoW is that it has given me time to re-kindle my passion for arcade gaming. And by “arcade” I of course mean “MAME on my laptop,” because arcades don’t exist any more, even less so in rural Nova Scotia. Sniff.
I’ve broken out someofmyoldstandbys, but I keep coming back to my all-time favorite quarter sink, Street Fighter II’ – Champion Edition. In honor of the game that captivated me so thoroughly between the end of class and the start of work every day for years, I’ve added a Twitter feed to my sidebar and given it an SF2-inspired title, Little Birdie Patterns.
The title won’t mean much to anyone who’s not directly related to me or who didn’thelp me spend the GDP of a small nation learning Vega’s air throw, but I think the web needs more self-referential crap and nostalgia, don’t you?

Since I’m currently on vacation, I only caught Felicia Day’s tweet about her upcoming Dollhouse episode, and the implied cancellation of the series, tangentially. I found myself oddly upset, and had to rush to confirm the truth. Synopsis: it’s not canceled…yet.
I guess that means (and contrary to previous indications) that I like the show. In my post-BSG doldrums, I need something to latch on to, and it might as well be this. The upside is there, if it chooses to assert its presence.
I will admit, I do get a certain guilty pleasure out of pretending that Harry Lennix is actually Barack Obama, kicking ass in primetime to protect Echo.
We will say nothing of the guilty pleasure that is Dichen Lachman.

I beat my parents at Wii Sports this morning, but not by much and certainly not by as much as I had feared/hoped. Example: I had to bowl a turkey in the final frame to pull ahead. We all lamented the golf controls.
Of course, the very fact that I’m playing video games with/against my parents, and that they own a Wii (and I don’t) and are using it for fun/exercise kinda blows my mind.
Needless to say, I think it’s awesome. I can’t believe how many times I caught myself thinking “oh, i can’t wait until they show *that*” while watching it.

1. Take a picture of yourself right now.
2. Don’t change your clothes, don’t fix your hair…just take a picture.
3. Post that picture with NO editing.
4. Post these instructions with your picture.
No mention of eyebrows anywhere in the instructions. Let this be a lesson in precision for you.

A pretty good indicator of where I am on the various adoption curves for internet technologies/meme-du-jours is what usernames are still available to me when I go to sign up. “Chris Cooper” is reasonably common as names go, so there is some degree of contention for the obvious contractions.
If “coop” is still available, I likely wrote the tool myself. Sometimes the tool is even named after me. If I end up with “ccooper,” I’m probably still ahead of the adoption curve, but tending towards the meaty section in the middle. If the tool in question start spitting out a suggested username with random combinations of letters like “chrisijcooper064,” I concede failure, and jump directly to “coopcoopbware,” which is a contraction of the wrestling name I was assigned in college, and as a username is rarely already taken for some reason.
