More updates from Scotland and Karen…actually, scratch that. Karen has her own blog now, so she can update you directly, should she so choose. From the content of her recent entries, I think she will fit in nicely with the rest of the Drunken Posse. :)

I’ve added some pictures from my recent trip to Italy to the gallery.

Karen finally got herself a landline, so I was treated to a phone call this morning from my wife who is still in Scotland and, not surprisingly, still enjoying herself.

Met up with Jeff and had dinner at Wasabi in the Market on Friday night. Wasabi’s bento box remains one of the best deals in sushi in Ottawa.

Speaking of sushi, I was only recently made aware of the new Health Protection and Promotion Act, REGULATION 562 which was just passed in Ontario, which makes it illegal to serve fish as sushi that has not been frozen first. If this offends you as much as it does me, I urge you to visit the web site for the Toronto Area Sushi Society and sign their petition.

OK, my body was just a little bit unprepared for 3 nights of ultimate in a row this week. Ow.

Of all the things to worry about: the Wookie has no pants

The aforementioned Ultimate tryouts were tonight. I wasn’t too concerned about them; I played in the same league last year, I know the calibre of play, and I think I deserve to play again. Since I didn’t feel I had anything to prove, I kept all my crazy throws in my bag (such as they are), and let other people embarrass themselves by trying too hard. If for some reason I don’t get the nod, I will simply end up playing more pick-up hockey at the local rink or taking up swimming again over the winter for exercise.

Of note: one of my friends that I used to play ultimate with in Guelph was also trying out tonight, It was fun to play against Justin “The Juice” To again. I really hope my hand-blocking him on every defensive series doesn’t keep him out of the advanced league, because he really is a good player. :)

I’m the fool in the pool doing the breaststroke

When I’m in doubt as to how to title a given entry, I often find it helpful to resort to appropriately chosen rap lyrics.

For Thanksgiving this year, my family ventured out to Navan to have dinner with my Aunt and Uncle. Yes, these really are pictures of us swimming on Thanksgiving in their new saltwater pool. Well, OK, most of the pictures are actually of us sitting in the hot tub. We’re not that crazy.

James Zabiela

While pining today for my wife who is still half a world away in the Magi…er, United Kingdom, I came across another great muscial find in the form of UK DJ, James Zabiela. By all accounts, his live performances are something to behold. The Essential Mix of his that I have managed to track down certainly backs that up, and I’m eagerly looking for more.

And now we come to the swimsuit portion of the program

Even though I played in the league last year, the convenors are making me attend an evaluation session (read: tryouts) for winter indoor advanced ultimate on Thanksgiving Monday. Considering the pricetag and the general quality of the league last year, I’m questioning whether it is even worth it. God I love OCUA.

I concede that it is possible that it is just me, but “My My My” by Armand Van Helden is one of the dancin’est tracks I have heard in a while.

When I close my eyes, I still see scooters

Would that I were still in Italy, eating porchetta and porcini and drinking Vino Nobile del Montepulciano with wild abandon, but sadly, not all of us can have as generous a travel schedule as my wife. Her European odyssey continues, while I’m back home again trying to dig myself out from under a mountain of test results.

Happy Birthday to me

Are you really an alcoholic if you just try to drink all of the booze-flavored presents your family gives you every year in an effort to not hurt anyone’s feelings?

The answer, as I am sure you have already guessed, is *hic* :)

Thanks for the party, folks. ‘Twas grand, as always.

And Australia is like, WTF?

Honestly, you go away for one weekend, and the whole world loses its mind.

Had dinner with the inlaws last night in celebration of Karen’s imminent trip to Scotland to pursue her MBA. Some of Karen’s friends from the Perimeter Institute were up visiting Ottawa as well.

All of my single guy friends have now officially missed out because:

  1. Karen is leaving; and
  2. the lone, single female from the PI group, Marie, who happens to be gorgeous — Kristina’s words, not mine; I’m not allowed to say words — and a leading theoretical physicist in the area of quantum computing, is also leaving shortly for Cambridge to continue her postdoc work.

Sorry, guys, I’ll try to keep you in the loop next time. Rest assured, I’m still looking out for you.
