I’m pretty much done upgrading the site at this point. At the very least, I think I’ve achieved feature parity with the old version, modulo the categories and the little validation links that used to live in the sidebar. If I have some time/inclination, maybe I’ll re-add those too, but don’t hold your breath.

Those who haven’t already heard of Freecycle should give it a look. It’s a great concept, and has already paid off for us.
Case in point: we had a old washer & dryer that we needed to get rid of. To recycle them at an appliance depot in Ottawa would have cost us money (not a lot, but still), and they would be automatically scrapped at the depot despite both being fully functional, albeit 20 years old. Thanks to Freecycle, we no longer have an extra washer & dryer cluttering up our garage, some young family gets a leg up on life, and the local landfill is a little less full.
There are Freecycle groups everywhere, so what are you waiting for?

I’ve updated my photo gallery to the new Gallery 2 beta. It looks pretty slick to me so far. I especially like the Random Image feature in the sidebar; it has caused me to revisit many of my older galleries today out of nostalgia.

With the prevalence of spam and its associated spam filters these days, it is proving damn near impossible to plan genuinely prurient activities (such as, say, a bachelor party for your best friend) over email.

Went out tonight with Kev to celebrate the recent getting together of his shit. Kev was miserable at his former job, so I think the combination of a new job and a real vacation will do him a world of good. Even if things don’t improve for him, at least he’ll have a change of scenery. 
The venue for tonight’s celebratory feast was Nokham, a nice, little Thai restaurant in our end of town. The place was packed, which is always a good sign, and despite a slow start, the service was good. The food was the real star, though. The red curry dish we ordered was outstanding, as were all the starters — spring rolls for me, and coconut-milk-based soups for Kev and Kris. Recommended.
