And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet

I don’t think I drank any more than I usually do, but pouring mead on top of champagne on top of beer on top of irish coffee on top of wine on top of mulled wine was a recipe for a killer hangover today. Of course, that probably says something how much I usually drink as well.

Thanks to everyone who showed up to dinner last night and made the evening, and our “Recipes Through The Ages” theme, a success. Extra special thanks to Kev for showing up in the nick of time with tasty confections (as instructed), but also for picking up the ball the next day when Kris and I were either too hungover or still too drunk to drive Karen to the airport. We’ll live that one down soon, I’m sure.

Signatures

Not for the faint of stomach or wallet, but if you are in the mood for full French service and a multiple course dining experience, then Signatures, the restaurant adjunct to the Cordon Bleu school here in Ottawa, should definitely be at the top of your list. I had the richest, tastiest lobster bisque in the history of the universe, and chatting with the server at our table while he prepared the pear caramel to accompany my chocolate mille-feuille in a big copper saucepan was quite the treat. Next time I go, I will have to leave the car at home so I can try the wine pairing recommendations to accompany whichever menu fixe I end up choosing.

More updates from Scotland and Karen…actually, scratch that. Karen has her own blog now, so she can update you directly, should she so choose. From the content of her recent entries, I think she will fit in nicely with the rest of the Drunken Posse. :)

I’ve added some pictures from my recent trip to Italy to the gallery.

Karen finally got herself a landline, so I was treated to a phone call this morning from my wife who is still in Scotland and, not surprisingly, still enjoying herself.

Met up with Jeff and had dinner at Wasabi in the Market on Friday night. Wasabi’s bento box remains one of the best deals in sushi in Ottawa.

Speaking of sushi, I was only recently made aware of the new Health Protection and Promotion Act, REGULATION 562 which was just passed in Ontario, which makes it illegal to serve fish as sushi that has not been frozen first. If this offends you as much as it does me, I urge you to visit the web site for the Toronto Area Sushi Society and sign their petition.
