Too much of a good thing?

If Apple could just stop the world for a little while, I would really like to get on.
As it stands, I’m feeling very tentative about buying into a product cycle that seems to leave adopters in the dust rather quickly.

But, but… the nano rocks!
I dunno, I have a hard time picturing myself watching vids on the new iPods, and they kind of remind me of anorexic linemen with their breadth and lack of depth (hrmm… that sounds like someone I know, too).
May as well jump in sometime. I’ll lend you the nano for a test drive next week if you like (it scratches more because of the 1/8th inche clear piece of polycarb that covers the top). I don’t regret buying it or the g4 iPod I got the week before the photo iPods came out (although I admit to being pissed at buying the 667Ghz Ti two weeks before the new DVI models came out a while back).
Apple ain’t gods, but they do make nice stuff. My Ti still runs Tiger at an acceptable pace (once it actually installed), and the iPod has lasted twice as long as any Creative DAPI’ve ever owned, so the ROI is good (from my view).
Ok, babbling, and stopping now.

Thanks for the offer, but I spent a good deal of time in the Apple store in Santa Monica while I was there playing with the nano. I know I want one, I just don’t want to miss the boat on the doubtless-soon-to-be-revealed pico, or whatever Apple has cooked up for us next.
If I did travel more, I likely would have made the plunge a long time ago (same deal with the cell phone). Since I work from home, it’s just a damn sight harder to justify.
Justification? For toys?
Wot dat?
Assuming this is your first iPod, and therefore iPod Justification Protocol… M iPod justification was simple. No more piles of CDs in the car on roadtrips, no more fussing with CD cases while driving. Oh and I use the iPod as the primary stereo at home, so it did away with major livingroom real estate. Plus clutter.
In fact, let me change direction and make this my point, since I am obviously seriously in need of one: if ever you seek to reduce visual clutter in your living room, eliminating visible CD/DVD/etc. cases is a good place to start.
I totally agree. I’m not so big on plugging and unplugging the iPod from the stereo-eo all the time, though, so got a Squeezebox. Everybody (i.e. iTunes and SlimServer) shares the same music library, so all my tunes are available everywhere. For home stereo use, I can’t recommend the Squeezebox enough.
No, really, I can’t. No clutter. Cool Screensavers. Excellent qwality. All kinds of codecs supported. Excellent software. Go get one!
chris has already used that justification for the stereo/dvd/everything combo that is a single unit that plays MP3, then used that justification again for the apple doodad that plugs in that streams MP3s from the computer. reusing that justification for a 3rd time isn’t convincing when the new doodad replaces previous dodads meant to do the same thing. nor is it very economical or environmental…
