Thanks to the good people of the Ottawa browncoats, Kris, Kev and I were able to take in a pre-screening of Serenity tonight.

Spoiler-free synopsis: great acting, good action and smart funny, but what else would you expect with Whedon writing? Recommended.

  1. It was a fun movie. It’s pretty clear that it’s just an attenuated TV show (who the hell is Mr. Universe? And why does he get a whole planet to himself?), but it was still good.

My biggest beef was that there wasn’t enough downtime for the characters to have the dialogue that made the TV series so fun. My second largest beef was that space had noise in it. One of the things I enjoyed most about the show was that the space shots were all silent. It isn’t so much that space should be silent, it’s more that it gave the space shots a really different feeling.

As an aside, does anyone actually read these scripts before they go into production? There were some largish plot devices that seemed heavyhanded. Maybe that’s just because we don’t know enough about the universe the show is set in, but they did leave me wondering.

I won’t add spoilers to your site. Instead I’ll save ‘em for my blog.
