Freecycle

Those who haven’t already heard of Freecycle should give it a look. It’s a great concept, and has already paid off for us.
Case in point: we had a old washer & dryer that we needed to get rid of. To recycle them at an appliance depot in Ottawa would have cost us money (not a lot, but still), and they would be automatically scrapped at the depot despite both being fully functional, albeit 20 years old. Thanks to Freecycle, we no longer have an extra washer & dryer cluttering up our garage, some young family gets a leg up on life, and the local landfill is a little less full.
There are Freecycle groups everywhere, so what are you waiting for?
Go figure - the Glebe has their own group intended to “complement” the greater Ottawa group. I believe this because most Glebe-dwellers think the rest of Ottawa is great, too.
